WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE Coconut Cream PIE
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (use your favorite homemade crust or store-bought)
- 1 ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup unsalted
butter, softened - 2 large eggs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup milk
- 1 ½ cup coconut flakes, divided
HOW TO MAKE Coconut Cream Pie
Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees.
Take your eggs, sugar, salt, and butter and beat them together until they reach a yellow/lemon looking color.
Next, mix in the flour well and then beat in the milk afterwards.
Once done, start to fold in 1 cup of coconut. Then, pour the filling into the pie shell that is unbaked. Once added, sprinkle the remaining coconut on top of the pie.
Add to the oven and bake for 1 hour. Let cool before serving.
Can you make this coconut pie using a pudding mix?
This is one shortcut that many people tend to do with this type of pie, but we prefer this way instead. It’s so much better when you can make it homemade or from scratch!
Do you have to bake the pie crust first before adding in the filling?
You actually don’t. Your pie crust should be unbaked. Once you add in the filling, you’ll then put the entire pie into the oven to bake. If you bake your crust first, it will be baked too much by the time the rest of the pie is done.
What happens if I use salted butter instead of unsalted butter?
If you only have salted butter to add to this recipe, then you’re going to want to cut out the added salt ingredient. If you use both, then your pie is going to be way to salty. Make certain to use unsalted butter for the best results.
