I love how quickly this snowman OREO cookie recipe comes together. You’re just whipping together this amazing cookie with filling and chocolate–and candy with smiles! Woohoo!
It’s seriously one of the best Christmas cookie recipes I can make in about 10 minutes of work. Which is kind of awesome when you’re down to the wire and need a quick cookie for a kiddo in need.
What You Need to Make Snowman OREO Cookies
- 10 Oreo cookies
- 1 ½ cups white candy melts
- 20 red M&Ms
- 1 oz. orange fondant
- Green decorating frosting
- Black decorating frosting
How to Make Snowman OREO Cookies
Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Place candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until completely melted.
Dip each Oreo cookie in the melted candy completely.
Place on the prepared baking sheet.
Place one red M&M face-down on either side of each coated Oreo cookie for ear muffs.
Form 10 small balls of orange fondant, about ¼ – inch in diameter.
Gently flatten each fondant ball and make one end pointy to form a “carrot”.
Press one pointy orange “carrot” on the center of each of the coated Oreo cookies.
Allow the candy on the Oreos to set.
With the green icing, place an arch over the top of each Oreo, connecting the two M&M’s.
Place two black dots of frosting on each coated Oreo for eyes and four black dots of frosting on each for smiles, then enjoy!
Tips to Make Snowman OREO Cookies Recipe
So, I have had a lot of experience making cookies. But the deal is, I wasn’t always experienced–I mean, it’s not like I just popped out of the womb with the cookie-pan in one hand and a spatula in the other.
No, it takes practice.
But you know what goes well with practice? Tips for making cookies easier. Here are mine for these Snowman OREO cookies.
- First, do not use white chocolate instead of candy melts. I know it’s tempting. I know it seems like they’d be interchangeable, but if this is your first time working with melted stuff coating cookies, wellllll, you should probably just stick with the candy melts. Because chocolate is a little more fickle. But candy melts work super well, super easy and super fast.
- I love to make my own frosting. It’s super tasty and easy. But the thing is, for something as small as this, it’s not worth whipping-up a whole batch. Just use that little writing icing you can get at the grocery store. So much easier and less time-consuming–and works just as well.
- Let your cookies rest and the chocolate set before putting the icing on top. I know you want to hurry and get your cookie in the mouths of hungry kiddos, but if you don’t wait, the frosting will melt into the chocolate a little and you’ll be all sad.
How Long Do Snowman OREO Cookies Last?
For the longest time, I thought maybe that all of the cookies ever would last for about 10 minutes on the counter because that’s about how long the kids let them last at my house. But, it turns out, these snowman cookies made with OREOS will last, in an airtight container, on the counter, for 12-14 days before the OREOs inside become a little less than desirable.
If you want to, you can make them last longer by putting them into the fridge in an airtight container and they’ll stick around for 2-3 months with no repercussions.
Can You Freeze Snowman OREO Cookies?
Ok. So, normally I’d be like “no, don’t freeze ’em” because I hate that film chocolate gets in the freezer sometimes–but these are candy melts, and they’re white, so the whole frosty film is not really a thing.
But, now I’m all intrigued–I haven’t had frozen OREO cookies before and doesn’t that sound divine?!
Also, if you put your Snowman OREO cookies into an airtight container in the freezer, they’ll last for 3-5 months without any problem.
But they’ll be frozen. So you’ll want to let them thaw, at least a little, before enjoying.
