There are 6 basic types of cookie categories that most cookie recipes will fall under.
Those cookie categories are molded, drop, rolled, bar, refrigerator and no bake cookies.
Molded cookies are usually round in shape. Drop cookies are generally some of the easiest to make. No bake are perfect for any time of year but are popular during the warmer months and at Christmas.

Sugar cookies can seem boring when they have nothing added to them, but you can change them just by adding in some flavorings.
Some of our favorite flavors to add to sugar cookies are lemon, peppermint or almond. This easy sugar cookie recipe is my wife’s go to and has a secret flavor ingredient in them. She has been making them for years.

What can you add to cookies to make them better?
When your cookie dough is raw and has not been cooked yet, there are so many unique things you can add to the batter to make the delicious. There is no reason to ever eat boring cookies!!
Some of our favorite things to add to the dough are:
- sprinkles
- chocolate chips (think white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate etc)
- our favorite cereals
- nuts
- marshmallows
- small pieces of a candy bar
- crush up graham crackers
- brown butter instead of traditional butter
- salted caramel flavoring
- potato chips (yes!!)
- cream cheese (makes the cookies so smooth they melt in your mouth!)
