When the kids needed a fun treat for their Valentines party, making heart rice krispie treats was first on my list. Super fast, super fun and super easy, these are hands-down the best Valentines treats you can make!
Plus, if you’re a fan of rice krispies recipes, you definitely need a these in your life. They’re soft, chewy, and you get to give someone the gift of a heart cookie cutter, too! So cool.
Ingredients You Need to Make No Bake Heart Rice KrispieS Treats
- 3 Tablespoons Butter
- 4 Cups Mini Marshmallows
- 6 Cups Toasted Rice Cereal
- 8 Ounces of Almond Bark
- Holiday Sprinkles
- M&Ms
How to make No Bake RICE KRISPIE TREATS
Place butter in a microwave safe bowl, then microwave in 30-second increments until melted.
Add your marshmallows to the bowl with the melted butter and mix until the marshmallows are coated in the melted butter.
Microwave the marshmallow/butter mixture in 45 seconds increments, stirring well between each increment, until the marshmallows are melted.
When the marshmallows are melted completely (no lumps at all), slowly stir in the rice krispies cereal.
Place your heart-shaped cookie cutters on parchment paper and fill each cookie cutter with the treat mixture.
Press each of the treats down to completely fill the cookie cutters.
Microwave the almond bark in 30-second increments in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring between each increment, until completely melted.
Using a fork, drizzle melted almond bark over each of the treats and immediately sprinkle with holiday sprinkles.
Allow your treats to cool completely before placing them in a cellophane bag with M&Ms and tie with a cute ribbon.
Why Do my rice Krispie treats get too hard
It is likely because you’re melting the marshmallows and butter at a super high heat.
Turn the heat down a bit, or you can even use a double boiler. I love using these when I am melting chocolate or making rice krispie treats because it really helps me control the temperature better.
How Long do homemade Rice Krispies Treats Last
They will stay fresh stored in an air tight container on the counter top for up to 3 days.
Did you know you can freeze them? You can! As long as you freeze them in an air tight container and cover them in clear wrap inside the container, they will keep for 2 months.
Are Rice Krispie Treats Gluten Free
Generally no they are not. You would need to search for a brand that specifically says it is GF.
Most rice crispy cereals contain a malting flavor that is derived from barley.
How Can I keep my rice krispie treats from tasting stale?
When you store your prepared treats in an air-tight container, add in a slice of bread to help them avoid a stale taste.
RICE KRISPIEs RecipES PRO TIPS
These tips may sound a little, well, you-should-know-this-already, but I seriously didn’t and it took me a long time to figure out how to make
- Lightly spray your stirring spoon with cooking spray so that the marshmallows won’t stick to it.
- Likewise, lightly spray your cookie cutters and parchment paper with cooking spray to limit sticking.
- Actually measure your ingredients. I know, I know, but the thing is, rice krispie cereal, it turns out, actually require a perfect balance between marshmallow and cereal. You get one off one way or the other and you’ll have a sticky, gooey mess or a dry, crusty eww.
- Do not over heat your marshmallows too fast. And definitely stir between each increment–if the marshmallows get too hot, your rice krispie treats will be hard.
- Use fresh marshmallows. If you have marshmallows that have been in the pantry for too long, the exterior gets all hard and that will translate into your treats. Fresh marshmallows are best.
- Eat your treats within about 3 days. They’re best the day you make them, but if you let them sit too long, you risk them getting hard and dry.
