RICE KRISPIES RECIPES PRO TIPS
These tips may sound a little basic, but I seriously didn’t know and it took me a long time to figure out how to make rice krispies without making a mess and being utterly disappointed.
- Lightly spray your stirring spoon with cooking spray so that the marshmallows won’t stick to it.
- Likewise, lightly spray parchment paper with cooking spray to limit sticking.
- Actually measure your ingredients. I know, I know, but the thing is, rice krispie cereal, it turns out, actually require a perfect balance between marshmallow and cereal. You get one off one way or the other and you’ll have a sticky, gooey mess or a dry, crusty eww.
- Do not over heat your marshmallows too fast. And definitely stir between each increment–if the marshmallows get too hot, your rice krispie treats will be hard.
- Use fresh marshmallows. If you have marshmallows that have been in the pantry for too long, the exterior gets all hard and that will translate into your treats. Fresh marshmallows are best.
- If you don’t want your treats to have that overwhelming strawberry flavor, you can always use regular unflavored rice krispie treats instead–or cut it half and half.
- If you’re in a rush to get out the door, you can pop the treats in the fridge for a few minutes to get the chocolate to set more quickly.
- If your freeze dried strawberries seem kind of large, give them a rough chop by hand or with a food processor so they are in smaller pieces.
- Eat your treats within about 3 days. They’re best the day you make them, but if you let them sit too long, you risk them getting hard and dry.
